“Pregnancy Massage Tables” vs. Pregnancy Massage Positioning

November 28, 2011

One of the most common questions I get about pregnancy massage is whether I use one of those fancy tables where you get to lie on your belly even if you’re 42 weeks pregnant.

My short answer is no.

What to Expect When You’re Expecting

August 1, 2011

Oh, this book. The book midwives love to hate. The book that scares unsuspecting parents. And, unfortunately, the book that manages to end up in the hands of pretty much everyone who even hears the word “pregnant.”

Contrasting Births

September 28, 2010

These two births were similar in that they were both holdout primips from the previous month, shared the same due date, and happened back-to-back.  Other aspects of their labors and births, however, were polar opposites, and very interesting to compare to one another.  I learned a lot here, including a glimpse of how much I […]

Missed Births

September 1, 2010

The entire month of August, I attended zero births, which is wild considering our practice had 5 EDDs on the calendar for the month.  My preceptor attended 3, but I managed to miss all of them, and the 2 other August mamas went over into September.  This is the story of the births for which […]

Bonus Babies

June 26, 2010

The account of two births with primips (first-time mamas) who came to us last minute.  I had thought we were done with our births for June, but shows what I know! The first client came to us at 39 weeks 5 days. She had been planning a hospital birth, but not looking forward to it. […]

First Week, First Babies

June 5, 2010

Alright, so I’m sitting here, having a late lunch, checking in every so often on the mama and baby in the other room.  I haven’t even been here a week, and there’ve been two births, although I only attended today’s. The one I missed was an emergency induction and Cesarean for mama’s health with a […]

Maternity Massage Series

May 25, 2010

Yesterday I finished the last day of a 6-day series of workshops on perinatal massage. I’ve taken shorter pregnancy massage workshops, but this was longer and integrated labor and the postpartum period very nicely. It was even great just to have a refresher for those parts that were review for me.

I’m feeling completely invigorated and excited to start up my massage practice again, but it’s a bittersweet ending.
